Shampoo Systems FAQ

How are the Adjust-a-Sink salon systems used?

It works much like a standard, fixed-mount shampoo bowl except for the important fact that it can be raised and lowered, using a hydraulic foot pump, a full 12 (or 14 with the E140) inches from a bowl height of 34 to 46 inches. This allows for an extremely comfortable fit to be established between the salon patron’s neck and the shampoo bowl. The comfortable fit eliminates back and neck strain and eliminates getting water on the patron and the floor. The Adjust-a-Sink can be used with a standard salon chair or a wheelchair. This allows the salon to be totally accessible as the patron can remain in their wheelchair during shampooing. This eliminates the possibility of accidents caused when someone is moved from a wheelchair to a salon chair.

Why is an Adjust-a-Sink better than a tilting shampoo bowl?

Tilting bowls provide about 5 inches of adjustment, this is not sufficient to serve the spectrum of residents of various statures and wheelchairs. For example, a 5’8” person in a standard sized 18” wide wheelchair may need the neck height adjusted to 41” or 42” from the floor. A short statured person in a small sized wheelchair who may be suffering from curving spine, may find a 34” neck position is most comfortable. Providing services to children or smaller persons in reclining chairs may require a neck height of 31”.

Yes, you can retrofit an Adjust-a-Sink with existing cabinetry or cabinets from other suppliers.

The Adjust-a-Sink shampoo systems are approximately 22 inches wide and can be mounted on any sturdy surface such as a cabinet or wall.  Most salon shampoo stations, sometimes referred as “wet stations” have a bulkhead section for mounting a shampoo bowl.  These bulkhead sections are about 24 inches wide and have sufficient space for mounting our K100 or E140 shampoo systems.  Be sure to confirm countertops do not overhand the bulkhead area so the Adjust-a-Sink has clearance to lift.

Are the shampoo systems ADA compliant, can you provide certificates?

There are no ADA compliance “certificates” for the K100 or E140 shampoo systems. Compliance to the ADA requirements for structures is done through site inspection after all construction is complete. All products must be installed to provide spacings and clearances according to the ADA rules. Manufacturers list their products as “ADA compliant” with the caveat that they are installed per recommendations and result in proper clearances, height, etc. Secondly, a salon shampoo sink is not intended for user self-service, so there isn’t a category under ADA regulations for this type of sink. The Adjust-a-Sink does help you provide a service to disabled clients, so it does improve accessibility to your salon.

Are the openings for supply lines and drain pre-drilled in the K100 panel?

No, these need to be drilled at installation.

What are the mounting requirements for a shampoo system?

The Adjust-a-Sink shampoo systems are not freestanding. If installing to a wall, the unit needs to be mounted to wall studs or backers with bolts, lag screws or anchors. Securing to drywall alone is not sufficient to support the system. Secure the back panel to the wall in four places using 1/4 inch hardware minimum.

What is the amperage draw for the E140 system?

The E140 model power draw is 2.5 Amps maximum.

Is the electric lift system hardwired?

The E140 salon system as well as the LV-10 bathroom sink come with a 10 foot, 3 prong cord which plugs into a standard 120V, 15A receptacle.  You may place a receptacle beneath the unit, or you may route the cord into a cabinet space that contains a receptacle or power strip that is ultimately connected to a GFCI.

Can I get a K100 model with the foot pump on the left side?

No, the K100 product does not have an option to mount the pump on the left side.  It can only be mounted on the right side as shown.  If clearance to operate the sink is an issue, consider the E140 model, the controls for the electric lift can be reached from either side of the sink.

Are there special plumbing requirements for the adjustable shampoo systems?

Yes, the water supplies and drain location need to be roughed in at the correct heights for the easiest installation.  The recommended locations are a bit lower than the norm.  Please see our rough-in drawings included on our product pages for details.

Bathroom Sink FAQ

What countertops are available?

Countertops for an LV-10 system can be fabricated by the builder’s preferred vendor, or Adjust-a-Sink can supply custom fabricated tops from solid surface sheets.  If Adjust-a-Sink provides tops, any available solid surface material in any available color can be selected and used to fabricate the countertops, there are no stocked colors.  It is also permissible to install granite or quartz tops to the LV-10 lift frame, these would be supplied by others.  We have complete drawings available to help your supplier of choice fabricate tops.

What countertop designs are possible?

Many designs are possible, please see our design guide for basic ideas.  The LV-10 lift frame can accommodate tops as narrow as 31 inches and as wide as 41 inches.  One difference with a typical top is the backsplash, and any side splashes, should be integral to the top, since they will need to move with it.  We recommend a ½” clearance on the sides of the countertops, and ½” clearance behind the backsplash to the wall or mirror surface.  Smaller gaps are permissible if the adjacent surfaces are sufficiently straight and square.

What sink basins can I use?

The following basins are known to be compatible with the Adjust-a-Sink LV-10 and LV-10S lift frames.

Will Adjust-a-Sink supply other panels?

A standard design full surround fabricated from solid surface can be supplied by Adjust-a-Sink, this is the 41340 style top plus side and concealment panels.  

Depending on the installation, a different configuration with one or two side panels, plus knee panels may be desired.  These panels can be fabricated from solid surface materials, or they can be hardwood or laminate.  Designers can work with their millwork or countertop provider of choice to fabricate panels per their design.
